Our History

A random idea, a silly dream, and a bad plan... Conceived on a rock ledge in Colorado overlooking a mountain valley, Skooch began with a simple conversation by a group of bored friends looking for a little entertainment while camping. While "lamenting" the silliness of modern day marketing and the reality that advertising has "nothing to do with the actual products being marketed", one friend observed, "Just create a logo and attach it to a product." Hey, we could do that!

Since we didn't know how to manufacture cars or produce electronic equipment, we decided to focus on clothes. One entertaining idea lead to another and through a lot of laughs, the idea for an upside down clothing line emerged with the slogan "we're not designers 'cause you're not models." After all, nobody was actually marketing to the "ugly" people... and thus the idea of Skooch Uglwear was born.

When Dave Reifsnyder from Chicago sent a logo idea to founder and CEO (whatever that means) Scott Davis in 2002, he took the idea to his friend Jeannine Ferguson who owned a small print shop and patiently allowed him to actually experiment with making designs and t- shirts. Selling primarily to friends and local students, then at camps and festivals, Scott found that people actually liked the idea. The self depreciating, tongue in cheek humor inherent in the Skooch Uglywear brand resonated with people who were just tired of the culture of "beautiful people" marketing. Sure, sex may sell, but Skooch makes fun of those who use sex to sell... therefore, Skooch sells.

Through a variety of encouraging friends and resources, Skooch is emerging as a recognized local brand of casual clothing. Still printed primarily by Scott and friends, the company is ready to explore and expand into the retail arena, never forgetting the idea that "Hey, it's just a t-shirt." Making comfortable, ugly, and affordable T's, sweatshirts and hats, Skooch hopes to build a profitable line that will pay for our food and golf, while funding worthwhile ventures consistent with the the heart of God for ugly people everywhere.
